San Damiano Two-Dimensional Cross
This Two dimensional San Damiano cross was made in the hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea in southern Italy. It is patterned after the orginal San Damino icon cross before which St. Francis of Assisi prayed when he heard the call, "Build My Church." St. Francis of Assisi went on to found the Franciscan friars and is one of the most beloved saints of the Catholic Church. The San Damiano icon crucifix features saints that were present during the life and passion of Jesus, and is commonly associated with the Franciscan order.
